What is a translation memory?

Our translation agency uses modern technologies to ensure the best quality. Among other things, we use a translation memory. This ensures consistency in the translation, an efficient translation process and lower translation costs.

A translation memory is a database of all your already translated texts. Using a translation memory, also known as a translation memory system (TMS), is an important way of ensuring the quality of a translation. A translation memory stores texts that have previously been translated for you. These text segments can be automatically retrieved by the translator and applied in a new translation. As a result, the translator does not have to retranslate previously translated texts, sentences and terms. This makes that a translation memory ensures optimum consistency, speed and efficiency. As a result, translation costs are reduced and you pay less for your translation.

How does a translation memory work?

A separate translation memory is built up for each customer (organisation). Every time a new text is translated, the source and target text are linked and added to the translation memory. When you submit a new text for translation that contains matching segments or sentences, the stored translation is immediately presented to the translator during translation. If required, the translator can then insert it at the touch of a button.

Live analysis

When you create an account with our translation agency, you can have your translation memory activated by contacting info@fairlingo.com. When you request a quote, our system automatically calculates the number of duplicate texts, which are immediately deducted as a discount. You can also upload a translation memory with us that you may have already built up elsewhere. These previously completed translations can then be reused and will be shown as a discount on your quote.

How does a translation memory help our translators?

Like a termbase, a translation memory helps the translator during the translation process. Based on previous translations, the translation of a piece of text or sentence is automatically suggested to the translator. However, whether and how the translator applies this suggestion is up to the translator. Therefore, a translation memory does not replace a translator, but it helps the translator do his or her job faster, more efficiently and better. The quality of a translation memory depends on previously done translations, so the importance of a professional, native translator remains undiminished.

What are the benefits of a translation memory?

  • Lower cost for your translation
  • Faster delivery time
  • Optimal quality and consistency
